Meet The Board
Daryl Heller is the President and CEO of PremierComm, previously known as Premier Companies, a telecommunications company based in Lancaster, PA. Daryl is a zealous entrepreneur who has founded over a dozen companies within the telecom industry and technology spaces since 1998. A man of many passions, he considers Horizon Initiative the legacy of his life. Teaming up with Jim Pesce in 2004, Daryl applied his business knowledge and experience to the humanitarian cause, firmly believing in a vision of self-sustainability through viable business ventures and corporate partnership. He has been married to his wife, Charlene, for 18 years. They have two children, Ethan and Taite, who are the joys of his life.
Jim Pesce is the Founder and CEO of Hallehluya Food Company established in 1994 in Ontario, Canada. With a degree in teaching and theology, Jim has a strong passion for connecting the West with the developing world, as he believes we who are well off are indebted to those in need of opportunity. He has worked with at-risk youth in his community since 1987, now involved in recreational programs with Toronto-based immigrant children. He has been serving in Kenya since 1999 before co-founding Horizon Initiative in 2004. Known as ‘Babu’, or ‘Grandfather’ at Horizon’s flagship micro-community in Kitale, Kenya, Jim serves on the board out of his love for the children residing there. He has been married for 33 years to his wife, Deb. They have three children and two grandchildren. When Jim is not serving in his community or abroad, he enjoys spending time at his family’s lakeside cottage in Keswick, Canada.
Eugene Strite is a compassionate business leader whose desire is to see the next generation walk in their full potential. Eugene has been in business for over 30 years and knows what it take to be successful. His passion is empowering others and consulting with businesses. He is the author of several books focused on finances and was the president of L&S Stone Inc, with branches in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida. Eugene travels nationally and internationally teaching on finances. Eugene has been married to his wife, Karen for 37 years. They have four children and ten grandchildren.
Jerry Weaver is Co-Owner, President and CEO of Quality Custom Cabinetry, Inc., a high-end custom cabinet manufacturer that distributes throughout the U.S. Through the QCCI Foundation founded by Jerry and his business partner, he has donated to various charitable organizations through the years. Jerry has a passion for giving and using his resources to empower others. In light of this, he became passionate about Horizon Initiative and its efforts to help the developing world become self-sustainable. He lives in Lancaster, PA with his wife and is a father to three girls.
Steve Peroff was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He was educated at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Business Administration and brings a strong organizational, marketing and advertising background to the board of Horizon Initiative. As a successful realtor of 25 years in Keswick, Ontario, his uncompromising honesty, knowledge of the industry, dedication to his client and unrivaled ability to build relationships, has made him and his team of dedicated professionals the premier real estate team in their region. A devoted husband to Colleen and dedicated father to Eli and Jordanna, Steve values hard work, family support and community involvement. He gives back to his community through sponsorship of many minor sports leagues, coaching, and avid support of the arts in his community. Since 2009, Steve and his wife Colleen have also been involved in the development of Baba Nyumbani, Horizon’s flagship micro-community in Kitale, Kenya. They feel honored to be involved in this important project, which is affecting the present and future lives of the children and community in a positive way. Baba Nyumbani has become their passion and has given their work in Canada a fresh purpose and focus.
Matt Burkholder is the President and CEO of Dutch Valley Food Distributors, a bulk food distribution company based in Myerstown, PA with a strong vision of growing in order to give back. It is no different for Matt’s family; he and his wife, Karen, have four daughters and a heart to serve. Matt believes that Horizon provides great opportunity to directly give back in remarkable and redeeming ways, both through his business and personally.
Rick Haller is the Founder and Chairman of Haller Enterprises, a plumbing, heating, electrical and air conditioning company based in Lancaster, PA. As a driven entrepreneur, Rick started the company out of his garage in 1981 but had a much greater vision; since then, the company has grown to a corporation with over 300 employees and five branch locations, serving the Central and Eastern Pennsylvania regions every day. A passionate business leader, Rick serves on various boards and contributes to local athletics, faith-based and academic community initiatives. Rick has been married to his wife, Joyce, for over 32 years and spends much of his time with his three children.
BRITNIE FAITH TURNER
Britnie Faith Turner is the 27-year-old founder and chief executive officer of Aerial Development Group, a Nashville, Tenn.-based residential and commercial real estate development company that revitalizes urban neighborhoods through renovation and infill. She is a frequent speaker for REIN, a not-for-profit that supports real estate investors in Tennessee. She also is an active member of the Women’s Presidents Organization, Urban Land Institute Nashville District Council, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Greenways for Nashville.
ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Larry Kreider has served as an advisory board member to Horizon Initiative from the organization’s inception. Larry initially served for 15 years as senior pastor of DOVE Christian Fellowship in Pennsylvania which grew from a single cell group to over 2,300 in 10 years. As Founder and International Director of DOVE International, Larry’s schedule is filled with travels to many nations for speaking engagements, mentoring to leaders of various church denominations. Larry has written more than 30 books. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, LaVerne, for nearly 42 years and spends his free time with his four children and three grandchildren. He earned his Masters of Ministry with a concentration in leadership from Southwestern Christian University at age 60, proving it is never too late to continue learning.
ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Ron Myer serves on the Dove Christian Fellowship International Apostolic Council as the Assistant International Director. He also leads the USA Regional Apostolic Council and the DOVE Europe Apostolic Team. He has 25 years of experience in cell-based church planting, starting a church in Lebanon, PA, serving as its pastor. Ron travels nationally and internationally teaching on various topics, with a strong focus on calling people to rise up to their full potential. He has authored and co-authored two books. Ron and his wife, Bonnie, have been married for 38 years. They have six children and eight grandchildren.
